Safety rules aboard our catamaran

To ensure the safety of our fast sailing catamaran and all our cruises, there are a few simple rules to follow. On this page, we detail the behavior we ask every passenger to adopt on board our ORC57.

  • Rule #S1:
The captain is the skipper. He is responsible for the safety of passengers and the integrity of the boat. The captain is also responsible for preserving the environment around the boat.
  • Rule #S2:
The sailor is the captain’s assistant. Passengers follow the captain’s or sailor’s instructions.
  • Rule #S3:
All persons on board must follow the captain’s instructions. If his instructions cannot be followed or if they are unclear, he must be informed immediately.
  • Rule #S4:
The captain and/or sailor must be present on board the tender when it is in use.
  • Rule #S5:
During the day, lifejackets must be worn in the cockpit, on the catamaran deck and in the tender.
  • Rule #S6:
At night, lifejackets must be worn in the cockpit, on the Avel Vaez deck and in the tender.
  • Rule #S7:
When the boat is underway, the consumption of alcohol or any narcotic substance is to be avoided.
  • Rule #S8:
Any substance kept in a container must be clearly identified.
  • Rule #S9:
When sailing, hull and deck hatches must be kept closed. Only open forward cabin escape hatches in case of evacuation.
  • Rule #S10:
Open deck portholes are a hazard when moving around on deck.

  • Rule #S11:
The harness lanyard must be fastened at night, at least when maneuvering on deck, and during the day when sea or wind conditions make it necessary.
  • Rule #S12:
When the boat’s sails are set, swimming is no longer permitted. This applies even if there is no wind.
  • Rule #S13:
When sailing, the anti-capesize system must be engaged, and the sheets must have a maximum of two turns on the winch heads. The sheets must be taken out of the self-tailing and put on the self-releasing cleats. This is essential under autopilot.
  • Rule #S14:
In the event of fire, shout “fire” and attack the fire with the nearest extinguisher. Fire extinguishers are located in each cabin and in the saloon. A battery fire extinguisher is located in the port gangway. The fire protection trigger for each engine hold is located in each aft cabin.
  • Rule #S15:
In the event of a man overboard, shout “man overboard” and release the crown buoy and IOR pole. Cast off the sheets to stop the boat. Follow the captain’s instructions.
  • Rule #S16:
In the event of a rollover, put on the survival suits located under the mattresses in the forward cabins, then evacuate the boat through the safety hatches. These are located at the front of each hull, on the inside hulls.
  • Rule #S17:
In the event of abandonment, regroup passengers on the trampoline and launch the liferaft. If possible, launch the dinghy. Before leaving the boat, put on the survival suits located under the mattresses in the forward cabins.
