West-East Transatlantic, from Le Marin to Ponta Delgada

West-East transatlantic, from Martinique to Ponta Delgada

Our catamaran has left the West Indies for the Azores archipelago!

At the end of March, Christian, Tanguy and Pavlina left Le Marin, Martinique.

Heading east for a few stopovers, before a new season of sailing in the Mediterranean Sea !

▪️On our catamaran, the few days before departure were quite intense.

On board, our 3 professional crew members took care of preparing the ORC57 down to the last detail: rig inspection, cleaning and tidying, major provisioning…

▪️Avel Vaez left the Le Marin anchorage on March 31, at midday.

« We set off in 20-30 knots of NE wind for 4 days. There was no one but us on those first few miles – we only came across a cargo ship! » explain skipper Christian and hostess-mate Pavlina.

To reach the Azores, our catamaran and its crew then had to deal with capricious weather:

« We had to sail around a very large low-pressure system to the west, which took up half the North Atlantic. We did a lot of upwind sailing on this transatlantic. »

Finally, Avel Vaez arrived at midnight on April 13, 2025… 13 days and 12 hours after the start.

All in all, this transatlantic voyage will have represented a distance of 2,752 nautical miles – 500 miles more than the orthodromic route.

Avel Vaez has officially passed the 15,000 nautical mile mark since her launch!
