The Atlantic Crossing: the ultimate dream for many ocean sailors!
The Atlantic Crossing is one of the most challenging sailing experiences.
Avel Vaez crosses the Atlantic Ocean twice a year:
- From Gibraltar to the Caribbeans in November.
- From the Caribbeans to Gibraltar in April.
For Ocean Crossings, Avel Vaez is allowed to embark four guests in two double cabins, alongside our three professional crew (skipper, mate, seaman/hostess).
Sailing westward in November:
Avel Vaez leaves Gibraltar at the end of the first week of November and, when conditions allow, stops in Madeira. Then our catamaran and crew sail to Las Palmas. We arrive six days prior the start of the ARC. The ARC is a rally, gathering 150 boats of all categories departing the last weekend of the month of November from Las Palmas. After two weeks of sailing mainly downwind, we arrive in Saint Lucia. Before mid-December we are at our mooring in Martinique, ready for the season.
Sailing eastward in April:
Avel Vaez leaves from Martinique around April 10th and sails to north until we can catch the back of a low-pressure system to propulse Avel Vaez quickly downwind to Horta on the island of Faial in the Azores. After a quick stopover in this mythical harbor, we continue our journey to Gibraltar to arrive a week later, before the end of April.
