Mediterranean Sea Crossing from Gibraltar to Athens

In May and June, Avel Vaez sails across the Mediterranean Sea. Each year we sail on a different path, please contact us for the latest schedule.

What to expect?

Our objective is to sail 50 to 70 miles per day, with some crossings up to 180 miles. Every night we stop in a different location. After a long crossing, we stop for a day to let the crew rest.

Our skipper will show you how Avel Vaez operates and you can participate as much as you want. Some guests are very involved in all maneuvers. Some guests prefer to relax and enjoy the sail and the performances of our catamaran.

We will take you to the most amazing places in the Mediterranean Sea, the best anchorages, the most iconic ports.

Accommodations:

We have three double cabins available for our guests. They can be split into two berths for individual sailors. Our crew (skipper and hostess) use the fourth cabin and the fore peak.

Our hostess cooks delicious meals each day. You can as well visit the local restaurants at the stopovers.

Itinerary (contact us for the latest schedule)

SpainCruise along the south coast of Spain

From Gibraltar to Mallorca, we sail along the south coast of Spain on this first leg of the Mediterranean Sea Crossing. We will stopover along the way around Motril, Almeria, Cartagena, Alicante and Ibiza.

FranceRediscover the south of France

On this part of the Mediterranean Sea crossing, we have several choices. One of them is to sail north from Minorca toward Barcelona. The coast in the south of France between Marseille and Toulon is extraordinary. We will stop on the islands of Hyeres, Port Cros and Levant. Then we will sail across to Corsica.

CorsicaExplore the west coast of Corsica

Arriving in Corsica, we stop in Girolata. Then we sail south along the west coast of Corsica down to Bonifacio. The coastline is beautiful and the stopovers will surprise you.

SardiniaAn island to discover

Sardinia is preserved from mass tourism. But the landscape is exceptional. We can sail on the west coast or the east coast and discover new places each time.

SiciliaAn island with stories

Sicilia is world known for its inhabitants. The coastline deserve a visit too. On the way, we will stopover in Vulcano and climb the active volcano. In the strait of Messine, we will observe the famous fishing boat hunting the swordfishes. And in Tormina, you can have a dinner and live again the movie scene of “The Big Blue”.

ItalyAnother path to explore on our way to the south of Italy

From Corsica, we can sail across to the islands of Ponza and Ischia. We can stopover in Napoli to have the original pizza or visit Pompei, the world known village that was frozen in time by the explosion of the mount Vesuvio a long time ago. We will also discover the Malfatti coast from the sea on our way to Messine strait

Adriatic SeaA challenging crossing

Crossing the Adriatic Sea from Crotone to Lefkada can be a challenging sail. It is usually very windy, and Avel Vaez will do this crossing on broad reach at very high speed, surfing on the swell. You will experience what Avel Vaez does best, sailing faster than any other boat on the water this day, including the large motorboats!

GreeceDiscover Greece!

We will sail across the Ionian Islands and stop on Ithaque, one of our favorite islands in the area and home of Ulysses! We will pass the bridge of Patra and sail across the Gulf of Corinth, with stopovers in Naphtpaktos and Galaxidi on the north coast. At the end of the Gulf, we will motor across the Corinth Canal, one of the largest man-made constructions many years ago. Time to visit a couple islands in the Saronic Gulf and we will finish the crossing arriving in Athens.
