With the end of the month of March comes the end of the Caribbean season for our catamaran and her crew. It is time to prepare for the North Atlantic Crossing, heading back to Europe for the summer season. Crossing the North Atlantic Ocean in April is a true adventure. Departing with a fair-weather window is important. Our professional crew has accumulated tens of these Atlantic Crossing and will decide of the safest and most efficient departure window. We leave the Caribbeans between the 10th and the 15th of April.
We head north-east against the tread winds, until we can catch the south side of one of the depressions drifting across the Northern side of the Atlantic. Then it is a long downwind sail, Avel Vaez expresses her full cruising speed potential. It takes between 11 and 13 days to reach the island of Faial. We stopover in Horta harbor. The atmosphere in Horta is always special. This is where most sailors returning from the Americas are stopping. After 2300 nautical miles, we stretch our legs a couple days, and we continue our cruise toward Gibraltar.
Plan to arrive on board on April 10th and depart from Faial on April 26th.
