As our ORC57 crosses the Atlantic in April, we’re offering you the chance to enjoy a cruise in the Azores.
The first leg of our Atlantic crossing from the Caribbeans arrives in Horta harbor on the island of Faial in the west side of the Azores. Our Azores cruise will start from this mythical port. Most sailors crossing the Atlantic from the Americas to Europe stop in the Azores and Horta is the first large shelter. It is a very lively city with bars full of stories. The walls of the marina are covered with paintings sailors have left from their stopovers. Some are very famous crew!
From Horta, there is a shuttle to Pico Island, just in front. Pico is famous for its mountain, the highest in Portugal. It is also known for its wine. Pico deserves a tour and weather permitting a climb to the top of the mountain.
From Horta, we sail across to the island of Sao Jorge and we stop at the tiny port of Velas. It is our favorite island and favorite little port to stay. The island of Sao Jorge is a jewel and deserve days of hiking and exploring. The landscape is absolutely stunning and the nature is gorgeous.
From Velas we sail to Terceira and we stop in the port of Angra do Heroismo. Terceira has a lot to offer as well.
From Angra, we sail to Ponta Delgada on the island of Sao Miguel. This is the largest island of the Azores. There are many sites to visit on the Sao Miguel, volcanoes, hot springs, etc. It is a fun stay for a few days.
